Dr.P.Thiyagarajan, started his carrier as Statistician in Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Kerala, Government of India on 01-04-1989. He also served in National Sample Survey Organisation, Shastri Bhavan Chennai and Southern Command Headquarters, Pune up to 30-09-1992. From 01-10-1992 to 14-03-2004, Dr.P.Thiyagarajan, has served as Deputy Director in Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He was founder Professor and Director, School of Continuing Education, Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU), Chennai and served from
15-03-2004 to 31-03-2023. He has 31 years of academic experience exclusively in the field of Open and Distance Learning. He was holding the post of Registrar (FAC) from 2018 to 2020 at TNOU and also founder Director, Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), from 2020 to 2023 at TNOU. He has published 40 papers at national and international level and prepared 67 Self Learning Materials. He has produced 7 M.Phil and 5 Ph.D through Regular Mode in TNOU.

I am most privileged to be the Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), Pallavaram, Chennai-600117.The VISTAS deemed to be University provides higher educational opportunities to the rural and semi- urban masses.

The main objectives of the VISTAS is to open various new avenues of learning in order to empower the student and become self-reliant.

The VISTAS culture strongly support diversity and inclusion, it includes students and faculty from a wide variety of social, economical, cultural and geographical backgrounds. VISTAS has always been at the forefront providing opportunities for those students who wants to learn.

The Centre for Distance and Online Education of Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies has always been at the forefront to meet the educational needs of the young aspirants including the marginalized and disadvantaged groups.

I congratulate those students who have already succeeded in transforming their lives through Open and Distance Learning and Online Learning. I also affirm with full confidence that every experience of learning through Open and Distance Learning mode from VISTAS will be outstanding ensuring global standards.
